Intended as a guide for developing office master specifications or preparing project specifications. Edit or amend to suit required purpose.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 Work Included: (this clause is optional and, if using, ensure description of work is complete).
1.2 Related Work
(reference appropriate sections and ensure list is complete) eg:
.1 Section 06100 Rough Carpentry (Blocking, Framing etc).
.2 Section 07620 Metal Flashing & Trim (Except For Bottom Stop Flashing)
.3 Section 15440 Plumbing (Supply of Roof Drains)
1.3 Quality Assurance:
1.3.1 Workmanship Standards
.1 Conform to the latest Guarantee Standards of RGC as published in the “RCABC Roofing Practices Manual” for a five (5) or ten (10) year Guarantee, unless modified by the contract documents to exceed those minimums.
.2 The owner or the owner's representative should identify applicable code and insurance requirements relating to the roof assembly.
1.3.2 Independent Inspection
(Preferred Wording)
.1 Perform using an independent inspection company acceptable to RGC, [the owner, and the consultant] namely: (name of inspection company).
.2 Perform as required by RGC under the five (5) or ten (10) year Guarantee Program.
.3 Inspection costs for the Guarantee will be paid directly by the owner and are not included in this contract.
1.3.3 Independent Inspection

.1 Perform using an independent inspection company acceptable to RGC, [the owner, and the consultant] to be assigned by RGC.
.2 Perform as required by RGC under the five (5) or ten (10) year Guarantee Program.
.3 Inspection costs for the Guarantee are included in this contract.
1.4 Submittals:
.1 Provide the owner with an “RGC Roofing System Record” upon completion of this contract. (Includes RoofStar Guarantee, copies of inspection reports, and Roof Maintenance Guide.)
.2 Provide the owner with one set of any required Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) prior to commencement of work, for review and posting on job site.
.3 List other submittal requests here, eg: shop drawings, samples, product literature, etc.
1.5 Product Delivery, Storage, and Handling:
.1 Deliver and store materials in original containers with manufacturer's labels and seals intact.
.2 Store materials elevated from contact with ground and moisture, and protected from weather.
.3 Store roofing felt on end, one pallet high; do not store in a leaning position.
.4 Avoid prolonged exposure of light and heat sensitive materials to sunlight.
.5 Store combustible materials away from heat and open flame.
1.6 Guarantee:
.1 Provide the standard RGC five (5) or ten (10) year Guarantee.
.2 Provide the shingle manufacturer's standard material guarantee for [fifteen (15)], [twenty (20)], [twenty-five (25)], [thirty (30)] [thirty-five (35)], [forty (40)], [fifty (50)] years.

Note: The manufacturer's guarantee indicates the quality of the shingle (e.g. a thirty-year shingle is of better quality than a fifteen-year shingle), and the guarantee is normally pro-rated.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 Roofing Materials:
2.1.1 Standards: conform to the RGC Guarantee Standards and to the appropriate CSA, CGSB, ULC, and ASTM Standards for the materials used in the roofing system specified; materials to be listed in the RGC Accepted Materials List of the RCABC Roofing Practices Manual.
2.1.2 Standards: (optional) conform to the requirement of ULC Design No. [ ]. (The design authority is responsible for identifying applicable code and / or insurance requirements governing material selection.)
2.1.3 Asphalt Shingles: To CSA A123.1 [98] Asphalt Shingles Surfaced With Mineral Granules and / or CAN-CSA A123.5 98 Asphalt Shingles With Fiberglass Felt Core.
.1 Type [strip] [self-seal][laminated] [three tab] [low slope] [interlocking] [individual] [standard] pattern [rectangular] [diagonal] [t-shaped] [keystone] [laminated].

Eave Protection: [to RGC Guarantee Standards and Building Code] self-adhesive, rubberized asphalt sheet material (see Accepted Materials List of the RCABC Roofing Practices Manual); or one ply No. 50 asphalt coated roofing sheet CSA A123.2 M1979; or one ply No.30 non-perforated felt conforming to CSA A123.3-M (when allowed by Municipal requirements); or two plies No.15 perforated asphalt-saturated felt conforming to CSA A123.3 M1979, cemented together with lap cement. PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1
.1 [Standard slope application (1:3 or 4" in 12" and greater): Install asphalt shingles in accordance with RGC system sheet specification STR-AS (see RPM Section 7.1.2)]
.2 [Low Slope Application (1:6 (2" in 12") to 1:3 (4" in 12"): Install asphalt shingles in accordance with RGC system sheet specification STR-LS (see RPM Section 7.1.4).]
3.2
.1 [Install sheet metal drip edge along eaves, overhanging 50 mm (2") with minimum 50 mm (2") flange extending onto roof decking. Nail to deck at 300 mm (12") o/c].
.2 Install bottom step flashing (soakers) interleaved between shingles at vertical junctions.
