1.3 EXECUTION

    1. PREPARATION
      1. The deck must be properly designed and constructed to support and secure the THERM 100 built-up roof system.
      2. The surface to which the roofing system is to be installed must be smooth, clean and dry.
      3. Ensure wood blocking, curbs and cant strips are solidly secured and reglets and nailing strips are in place as required.
      4. Prepare substrate in accordance with good roofing practices as outlined by RGC for the different deck types.
    2. VAPOUR RETARDER
      1. Vapour retarders must be continuously extended throughout the roof plane. All openings in the roof deck must be flashed at the retarder level.
      2. Options dependent upon specific job requirement:
        • Install Tremco vapour retarder with 50 mm (2") side laps and 100 mm (4") end laps, adhering with ribbons of THERMastic, hot asphalt or Tremco insulation adhesive.
Install two plies of THERMglass or No.15 asphalt-saturated felt, fully adhering with moppings of hot THERMastic or hot asphalt.
    3. INSULATION
      1. Mechanically fasten insulation over nailable decks in accordance with RGC Guarantee Standards.
      2. Embed insulation in a 1.5 kg / m2 (30 lb / square) mopping of hot THERMastic or hot asphalt over non-nailable decks.
      3. Install accepted insulation overlay board, as required by RGC Guarantee Standards.
      4. Install wood nailing strips on slopes exceeding 1:12 (1" in 12").
    4. MEMBRANE APPLICATION
Install four plies of THERMglass, laid in shingle fashion and placed to ensure that water will flow over or parallel to, but never against, exposed edges.
      1. Heat THERMastic to application temperatures in accordance with label directions.
      2. At time and place of application, THERMastic shall be within 23°C to 260°C (450°F to 500°F).
      3. Use 229 mm (9"), 457 mm (18") and 659 mm (27") wide plies to start and finish roof membrane along roof edges and terminations.
      4. Embed each ply in solid moppings or continuous spreads of THERMastic at 1.2 L / m2 (2.5 gal / square). Apply THERMastic no more than 3048 mm (10') ahead of each roll being embedded.
      5. Stagger all end laps.
      6. Fit plies into roof drain rims, reinforce with elastomeric sheeting or two plies of Polytherm and THERMastic, secure clamping collars and install domes.
      7. Extend plies only to top edges of cant strips along bases of parapets, walls and skylights.
    5. FLASHINGS ==
      1. Ensure continuity of air / vapour seal at all changes in direction.
      2. Install one ply of Tremco elastomeric sheeting in THERMastic or, alternatively, install two plies of Polytherm adhered and overcoated with THERMastic.
      3. Ensure that flashing membrane extends onto roof membrane a minimum of 150 mm (6") and terminates a minimum of 200 mm (8") above roof membrane on walls.
      4. Mechanically fasten flashing membrane 200 mm - 300 mm (8" - 12") on centre along outside fascia and along upper edge of wall flashing.
    6. PROTECTIVE FINISH ==
      1. Reflective Granular Surface:
        Apply THERMastic at 1.5 L / m2 (3 gal / square) and promptly cover with No.11 roofing granules manufactured by 3M at 3 kg / m2 (60 lb / square).
      2. Gravel Surface:
        Apply THERMasticat 2.2 L / m2 (4.5 gal / square) and promptly cover with pea (roofing) gravel at 20 kg / m2 (400 lb / square).
      3. Reflective Smooth Surface:
Apply THERMastic at 1.5 L / m2 (3 gal / square) and immediately install THERMglass felt. Avoid overlapping the THERMglass or, conversely, leaving gaps greater than 6 mm (1 / 4") between felts.
Sweep the completed surface, removing all loose sand, dust, dirt, or other foreign material. Apply two coats of reflective coating at the rate of:
        • Double Duty Aluminum: .20 L / m2 (.40 gal / square) per coat.
        • Double Duty White: .16 L / m2 (.33 gal / square) per coat.
Note: Reflective coatings may require maintenance or occasional recoating and this work is not covered by the RoofStar Guarantee.
      4. Protected Membrane Configuration:
Apply THERMastic at 1.5 L / m2 (3 gal / square). When THERMastic has cooled to ambient temperature, install polyethylene sheeting extruded polystyrene insulation boards, woven polyolefin fabric (i.e. Fabrene Scrim) and stone ballast at a minimum 49 kg / m2 (1000 lb / square).
