- .2 The owner or the owner's representative should identify applicable code and insurance requirements relating to the roof assembly.
- .3 Qualification of Workers: Employ skilled applicators approved by membrane manufacturer.
- .3 Independent Inspection: (Preferred Wording)
- .1 Perform using an independent inspection company acceptable to RGC, [the owner, and the consultant] namely: _____ (name of Inspection Company).
- .2 Perform as required by RGC under the five (5) year Waterproofing Guarantee Program.

- 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

- .2 Provide and maintain dry, off-ground weatherproof storage.
- .3 Store rolls of PVC flat on cross supports.
- .4 Remove only in quanitities required for same day use.
- .5 Store materials in accordance with manufacturer written instructions.
- .6 Store insulation protected from [sunlight] [and] [weather] and deleterious materials.
- 1.7 WARRANTY
- .1 For Work of this Section [07 13 54 - Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Sheet Waterproofing] Provide the RCABC Guarantee Corp. (RGC) Standard Five [5] year Waterproofing Guarantee.
- .2 Provide a Membrane Manufacturer [material warranty] for [10] [___] years.
- 1.8 WASTE MANAGEMENT AND DISPOSAL
- .1 Separate and recycle waste materials in accordance with Section [01 74 21 - Construction/Demolition Waste Management and Disposal], and with the Waste Reduction Work plan.
- .2 Place materials defined as hazardous or toxic waste in designated containers.
- .3 Ensure emptied containers are sealed and stored safely for disposal away from children.
- .4 Collect and separate plastic, paper packaging and corrugated cardboard in accordance with Waste Management Plan.
- .5 Fold up metal banding, flatten and place in designated area for recycling.
- .6 Plan and coordinate insulation work to minimize generation waste.
- .7 Collect and separate plastic and/or paper packaging for recycling.
- .8 Use the least toxic sealants and adhesives necessary to comply with requirements of this section.
- .9 Close and seal, tightly, all partly used sealant and adhesive containers and store protected in well ventilated, fire-safe area at moderate temperature.
- .10 Place used hazardous sealant tubes and adhesive containers in areas designated for hazardous materials.
- .11 Collect, package and store PVC membrane cut-offs and waste material for recycling and return to recycler in accordance with Waste Management Plan.
- 1.9 PROJECT/SITE ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- .1 Temperature, relative humidity, moisture content.
- .1 Apply PVC membrane only when surfaces and ambient temperatures are within manufacturers' prescribed limits.
- .2 Do not install PVC membrane when temperature remains below [5 degrees. C.], or when wind chill gives equivalent cooling effect.
- .3 Install PVC membrane on dry substrate, free of snow and ice. Use only dry materials and apply only during weather that will not introduce moisture into system.
- .2 Safety: Comply with requirements of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regarding use, handling, storage, and disposal of asphalt, sealing compounds, primers and caulking materials.
- Part 2 Products
- 2.1 COMPATIBILITY
- .1 Compatibility between components of system and adjacent materials is essential. Provide a written declaration to [Engineer] [Consultant] stating that materials and components, as assembled in system, meet this requirement.
- 2.2 DECK SHEATHING (STEEL DECK)
- .1 Gypsum board: ASTM C1177/C1177M-[01], Glass Mat Gypsum Substrate for Use as Sheathing, [12.7] [15.9] mm thick] [thickness as indicated] or Fibre-mat reinforced cement board to ASTM C1325-04 [Non-Asbestos] [9.5] [12.7] mm thick.
- .2 EcoLogo certified.
- .3 Recycled content:
- .1 Contain minimum [10] % by weight of recycled material in core of finished product.
- .2 Contain minimum [20] % by weight of FGD gypsum and [5] % by weight of recycled material in core.
- 2.3 MEMBRANE
- .1 Flexible polyvinyl chloride PVC sheet membrane: to CGSB 37-GP-54M.
- .1 Class A, Type [2-reinforced], [ ] mm thick for fully adhered, protected applications and for exposed PVC flashings.
- .2 Class B, Type [2-reinforced], [ ] mm thick.
- 2.4 SEPARATION SHEET
- .1 Woven polyolefin fabric, 100 g/m2.
- .2 Protection mat between PVC and gravel.
- 2.5 EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE INSULATION (FIBREBOARD FACED)
- .1 Extruded polystyrene (XPS): to CAN/ULC-S701, Type [4], thickness [[___] mm] [as indicated], and [square] [shiplapped] [vented] edges.
- .1 EcoLogo certified
- .2 Recycled content: [minimum [___] % [recycled material per total weight of single batch] [as average percentage of recycled content for consecutive 12 month period]].

- 2.8 FASTENERS
- .1 Covering to steel deck: No.10 flat head, self tapping, Type S, corrosive resistant screws to ASTM C 1002.
- .2 Membrane to substrate: fasteners and spacing as recommended by manufacturer.
- 2.9 FILTER FABRIC
- .1 UV resistant, black woven polyolefin fabric for installation between insulation and stone ballast in protected membrane system. Fabric to meet recommendation of insulation manufacturer.
- 2.10 BALLAST
- .1 Stone: [19 to 32] mm size, well graded, rounded, stone, opaque, non-porous, washed, free from fines, splinters, ice and snow.
- .2 Paving slabs: to CSA A231.1, [[___] x [___] x [___] mm thick] [of sizes indicated] [natural] [exposed aggregate] [integral coloured] [air entrained] precast concrete paving slabs [having non-slip finish with [51] mm plain margin around perimeter].
- .3 [Unit masonry] brick, tile or stone placed on sand and or gravel beds [compliant with RoofStar guarantee standard E11] require moisture monitoring sensor grid on top of the waterproofing membrane in order to locate breaches in membranes. [Refer to 1.5.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE]
- .4 [Solid Wearing Courses] cast-in place concrete protection slabs [split-slab] and asphalt paving wearing courses [inaccessible wearing courses] shall be [compliant with RoofStar guarantee standard E11], incorporate surface score lines [indents]. Score lines shall be straight edged grid patterns [squares, rectangles, diamonds, etc.] to facilitate cutting. Indents shall be spaced at a maximum of [2 metres] apart in any direction.
- 2.11 GEOSYNTHETIC DRAINAGE CORES and GEOCOMPOSITES
- .1 Molded [dimpled] [woven] plastic grids, a minimum of [9.5 mm (3/8") thick] or greater [CCMC Listing No. _____] shall provide uniform support and traffic-bearing properties for overburdens and wearing courses. Geosynthetic drainage cores and geocomposites with factory laminated filter fabric accepted and listed by RoofStar Guarantee Program.
- 2.12 PAVER PEDESTALS
- .1 Pedestals and levelling plates made of high density polyethylene with integral spacer ribs on upper surface.
- 2.13 ACCESSORIES
.1 Steel termination strips, "U" shaped steel channels, PVC cord, distribution plates as recommended by membrane manufacturer.
- 2.14 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL
- .1 Submit laboratory test reports in accordance with Section [01 45 00 - Quality Control].
- .2 Submit glass transition temperature of all PVC materials considered for use on this project, >as manufactured= and after heat-aging for 28 days at 100degrees C. The increase in the glass transition temperature (Tg) shall not exceed 5degrees C regardless of its value.
- 2.15 PROTECTION
- .1 Cover walls and adjacent work where materials hoisted or used.
- .2 Use warning signs and barriers. Maintain in good order until completion of work.
- .3 Dispose of rain water away from face of building until drains or hoppers installed and connected.
- .4 Protect from traffic and damage. Comply with precautions deemed necessary by [Engineer] [Consultant].
- .5 Place plywood runways over work to enable movement of material and other traffic.
- .6 At end of each day's work or when stoppage occurs due to inclement weather, provide protection for completed work and materials out of storage.
- .7 Seal and ballast exposed edges.
- 2.16 SUBSTRATE EXAMINATION
- .1 Examine and immediately inform [Engineer] [Consultant] in writing of defects.
- .2 Prior to commencement of work ensure:
- .1 Substrates are firm, straight, smooth, dry, free of snow, ice or frost, and swept clean of dust and debris.
- .2 Curbs have been built.
- .3 Drains have been installed at proper elevations relative to finished surface.
- .4 Plywood and lumber nailer plates have been installed to walls and parapets as indicated.
- 2.17 DECK SHEATHING -STEEL DECK
- .1 Gypsum board: ASTM C1177/C1177M-[01], Glass Mat Gypsum Substrate for Use as Sheathing, [12.7] [15.9] mm thick] [thickness as indicated] or Fibre-mat reinforced cement board to ASTM C1325-04 [Non-Asbestos] [9.5] [12.7] mm thick.
- .2 EcoLogo certified.
- .3 Recycled content:
- .1 Contain minimum [10] % by weight of recycled material in core of finished product.

- 2.18 PROTECTED MEMBRANE APPLICATION
- .1 Membrane:
- .1 Install [fully adhered] [mechanically fastened] [loose laid] membrane and flashing in accordance with CGSB 37-GP-55M and manufacturer's written instructions.
- .2 Separation sheet.
- .3 Install separation sheet loosely laid over insulation.
- .4 Overlap edges 300 mm minimum.
- .5 Slit separation sheet to fit over penetrations. Cut out around drains and other openings.
- .2 Insulation application.
- .1 Insulation to be loose laid in parallel rows with ends staggered.
- .3 Flashings.
- .1 Install PVC membrane flashings in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions.
- .4 Penetrations.
- .1 Install drain pans, vent stack covers and other penetration flashings and seal to membrane in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and details.
- .5 Filter fabric application.
- .1 Apply fabric unbonded over installed insulation.
- .2 Overlap edges 300 mm minimum.
- .3 Cut fabric around drains, vents and other penetrations and extend under metal flashings.
- 2.19 BALLAST AND PROTECTIVE COVERING
- .1 Apply stone ballast, as soon as possible after placement of [fabric] [insulation], at minimum rate of [75] kg/m2.
- .2 Spread stone ballast to an even thickness over entire area.
- .3 Spread additional stone ballast around perimeter for width of 1200 mm to increase ballast weight to [___] kg/m2.
- .4 Install paving slabs over fabric on paver levelling pads. Allow slight space between slabs to permit drainage of surface water. Shim up as required to obtain smooth surface transition from slab to slab.
- 2.20 PROTECTION OF COMPLETED WORK
- .1 Ensure membrane is undamaged before application of protection board.
- .2 Apply protection board to cover membrane [at locations as indicated] [below grade] [below concrete] [below paving].
- 2.21 CLEANING
- .1 Clean Work in accordance with Section [01 74 11 - Cleaning] [___].
- .2 Clean to [Departmental Representative's] [Engineer] [Consultant's] [___] approval, soiled surfaces, spatters, and damage caused by Work of this Section.
